This monument illustrates the strong role of the church in Poland's political and social upheavals during the eighties. The first paragraph is a quote from a 1979 speech by John Paul II, calling, "from the depths of this millennium," for his country's spiritual renewal. The bottom part commemorates the creation of Solidarnosc in Gdansk, on August 31, 1980.
